Zacapa, Guatemala - Fall 2012
In February/March 2011 a church supported team of 25 visited the villages Taguayni (three days) and Caputalito (two days) in the Zacapa highlands of Guatemala to provide medical, dental, eye and vacation bible school activities. The two villages are located in the cloud forest areas of Zacapa which is one of the poorest parts of the country.
Five nationalities were represented in the team: Guatemala, Colombia, USA, Canada and Germany. Members from the Iglesia del Camino church ministered to the children in the villages.
The medical team was comprised of two doctors, two nurses, a dentist, a dental assistant, and an eye examiner.
In addition to the services listed five families had their old stoves replaced. Many adobe houses have cooking stoves without chimneys, so smoke fills the house causing respiratory and vision problems. Without electricity, flashlights have to be used for the stove installations.
