Rae Ann Reyna
Q: How long have you been in this specific mission field?
A: I have been in Bogotá, Colombia for 6 exciting months!
Q: How long do you plan to serve your present location?
A: I plan on being here until December of 2013 a total of 2 ½ years. However, those are my plans but at the end of that time the Lord needs me to stay for a longer period, I will follow His leading!
Q: What other fields/ministries have you served and for how long?
A: I served with SAMMinistries for 2 years. I began working by helping to coordinate volunteer activities and very soon after became the Teen Coordinator at the Transitional Living and Learning Center.
Q: Describe in a short paragraph the specific mission work you do. Tell us about the people to whom you minister.
A: Formando Vidas of Bogotá, Colombia works to serve street kids and their families. The definition Street kids can encompass children living on the street, children living in utter poverty or children who work with their parents on the streets of Bogotá. My job in particular is that of a teacher at our school Luz y Vida (Light and Life). At Luz y Vida we serve children who can’t function properly in public schools, due to bad behavior, lack of education or the like. We work with the students to prepare them spiritually, emotionally, socially and academically to reenter or enter public schools. I am the 1st and/or 2nd grade teacher.
Q:What are the goals for your ministry in the upcoming year?
A:This upcoming year is going to be an interesting one. As of January, we have a shortage of teachers at Luz y Vida. In that, my goal as a teacher is to remain calm! At all times!
Other goals include:
Becoming more of a spiritual warrior for the lives of the children the Lord has put in my life.
To keep curriculum creative and geared to every learning style.
To pray more often with my students outside of Bible Time.
Q: In what other ways can University UMC partner with you?
A: Prayer!!! I’ve come to understand just a tad bit better
Matt 9:36-38
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Formando Vidas is in need of workers. There are so many children who need help, so much work that needs to be done. So prayer that workers will come to this plentiful harvest! Prayer for the children of Bogotá…Prayer, Prayer, Prayer!!!
