Steve and Nacy Rowan
Q: How long have you been in this specific mission field?
A: Wycliffe since 1984, Bible Story Telling since 2002.
Q: How long do you plan to serve your present location?
A: Retired from active involvement with Wycliffe in November, 2011
Q: What other fields or ministries have you served and for how long?
A: Dallas, TX 1984 - 1986; Lima, Peru 1986 - 2002; Bible story telling around the world 2002 – 2011
Q: Describe in a short paragraph the specific mission work you do. Tell us about the people to whom you minister.
A: For the past 28 years we have been members of WBT-USA. Until 2002 our area of service has been administration of Bible translation projects in Peru. Both Nancy and I served at various levels of administration within the organization in Peru including 3 years as general director of the work in Peru.
Beginning in 2002 our focus shifted to expanding a new strategy, “chronological Bible storying” within the Wycliffe Family of Organizations. Wycliffe is presently working in partnership with Campus Crusade for Christ, Youth With A Mission, Trans World Radio and the International Mission Board to develop this oral strategy as a viable approach to reach the approximately 5,000 un-reached and/or Bibleless, oral tradition people groups of the world. Nancy and I are part of the small but growing group within Wycliffe who are focusing on chronological Bible storying as a means to present the Gospel to these oral learners. Our focus is recruitment and training of young people into WBT and to develop and train mother tongue speakers for the work. Our goal is to see Bible story telling used as a viable strategy to present the Gospel and plant indigenous churches. Bible storytelling is also used to lay a foundation for Bible translation and Scripture use.
Q: What are the goals for your ministry in the coming year?
A: Because Nancy and I retired in 2011, our ministry goals have shifted from WBT to church and Bible study goals. In 2012 I have some limited involvement with training both nationals and expats in Tanzania.
Q: In what ways, other than financial, can The U partner with you?
A: We greatly appreciate the support UUMC has invested in our ministry over the years. We will continue to minister in our areas of expertise (training, Bible study and oral strategies to present the gospel) and would welcome your prayerful partnership.
