Steve and Karen Dorner

Q: How long have you been in this specific mission field?

A: 5 years

 

Q: How long do you plan to serve your present location?

A: Until retirement at age 70 or beyond.

 

Q: What other fields/ministries have you served and for how long?

A: Priority Associates, Campus Crusade for Christ - 3 years.

 

Q: Describe in a short paragraph the specific mission work you do. Tell us about the people to whom you minister.

A: We seek to encourage Christ-centered hope and faith in the lives of military members, veterans and their families. We focus on Texas, OK, AR, LA, partnering with churches, pastors, military Chaplains, service members, and community organizations to inform, equip, encourage, resource and minister to troops and families. In addition, we are the national speakers for our ministry's Bridges to Healing seminars, held across the nation to inform and equip the local church to understand the military as a people group and to know how to minister to their unique needs. As directors for the Red River Region, we also supervise, support and encourage teams of Military Ministry staff members located at or near various military installations in our region.

 

Q: What are the goals for your ministry in the upcoming year?

A: Evangelism and Troop and Family Care - To assist our regional staff in having increased presence and effectiveness at all major military installations in our region, including Fort Sam Houston, Fort Hood, Fort Bliss, Fort Sill, Lackland AFB, etc. - to the end that military members and families are touched by the hope and love of Jesus Christ.

Church Mobilization - To be part of the Bridges for Healing Team helping many more local churches understand the needs of military members and their families, AND answer God's call to reach out be beginning or improving military specific ministries in those churches.

Team Building - To lead our regional staff in ways that enhance their ability to LOVE GOD LOVE TEAM< LAUNCH MOVEMENTS OF SPIRITUAL MULTIPLICATION, and LEARN FOR A LIFETIME

 

Q: In what other ways can The U partner with you?

A: Help out by being host church for future events sponsored by Military Ministry.

 

Additional comments: We are eternally grateful for the faithful support of our ministry by our home congregation. Thank you for being part of our team and to reach the military with the love of Christ! And we are especially excited about the newly formed UUMC Military Ministry Committee and look forward to working in partnerships together - to the glory of God!
