Costa Rica - Summer 2012

To learn more about this trip read about the 2010 trip below. (2011 Trip review coming soon)

The 2010 edition of the “Intro to Mission” trip to Costa Rica has now come and gone, yet the impact on those who participated will be felt long after. Outreach Pastor, Adam Knight led a group of 6 missionary “newbies” to Carrillos, Costa Rica for a week of missionary service to the people and the Evangelical Methodist Church of Costa Rica. It was an experience that will not be soon forgotten by those who participated.

We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and spent the next day acclimating to our surroundings and learning about the culture of Costa Rica and a little about how Christianity has interacted with the culture. We toured one of Costa Rica’s volcanoes and had the opportunity to go around a see some of the country and interact with the people and the culture. Most of our work was done at the same church we were being housed at, Palabra Viva Evangelical Methodist Church. We were working to help build a room that will be used as a feeding program for the hungry children of the area. Currently they serve about 10-15 kids in their program because of space, but once the building is complete they will be able to feed up to 100. We also spent an afternoon working with the another feeding program in town housed by the local Pentecostal Church. We played games with those kids, like “Duck, Duck, Goose” we drew pictures, played soccer and then served them their meal; for many of them the only meal they will get for that day. It was a wonderful time of getting to love on the children and demonstrate in a concrete way the love of Jesus Christ.

In addition to all of this, we met some wonderful people who display Christ’s love to the people of Costa Rica every day—Charlie Strong (the missionary), the pastor of Palabra Viva Church, Anna our cook, and many others. They affected our lives probably more than we did theirs. None of this would have been possible without your prayerful, and financial help. Your support of our trip was an investment in the people of Costa Rica and the churches that are working tirelessly to share the good news of Jesus Christ with this beautiful country. On the back of this letter you will find some personal thoughts from those that you supported, so read about your investment and enjoy. Again, thank you for your support.
