Jim and Angela Beise
Q: How long have you been in this specific mission field?
A: I have been involved in European ministry since 1982. We lived in Paris for a total of 14 years.
Q: How long do you plan to serve your present location?
A: Although we are unable to live there for now, I plan to continue giving vision and leadership until I can no longer do so. The teams at La Fonderie and the arts gallery are doing excellent work, surpassing even our hopes for the work there.
Q: What other fields/ministries have you served and for how long?
A: I have led teams short-term trips (3 days - 6 weeks) in Central and South America, Europe and Africa. Specifically Gabon, Zambia, Paraguay, Mexico, Canada, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, England, Scotland, Austria, and Holland.
Q: Describe in a short paragraph the specific mission work you do. Tell us about the people to whom you minister.
A: I serve as a catalyst, pastor, and coach to artists and creative ministries in European cities. With The Mission Society I work to develop ministries to reach post-Christian Europe with the Gospel. The people I work with are uninterested in "religion", mostly urban, educated and individualistic. As European Regional Consultant, I pastor and coach Mission Society Missionaries, helping them with ministry challenges, new initiatives, and short and long term planning. I assist them with their personal spiritual growth and family issues, and with the dynamic contexts of ministry in post-Christian Europe. In addition to regular contact via Skype, email, and phone, I make regular trips to the field to visit and encourage the teams. In 2012 I will be traveling to France/England/Switzerland/Germany/Thailand/Singapore/Montreal/New York/Los Angeles/Austin/Miami.
We do not believe that we will be staying in Cape Girardeau long term (where we currently live and both serve at La Croix UMC, our home church). It would be better for us to be in an urban center, which would facilitate contact with the international community and with the urban poor, with artists, and those in creative professions, as well as simplifying travel.
Q: What are the goals for your ministry in the upcoming year?
A: 1) To make four teaching trips. (To Europe, Canada, and Asia.)
2) To help with the establishment of a new dance/arts ministry in Moscow, which was delayed because of Russian bureaucracy.
3) To recruit and unleash two additional missionaries or couples in Europe.
4) To begin the organization necessary to open a new arts initiative/outreach in a world class city.
5) To develop my blog to coach and encourage artists in ministry.
Q: In what other ways can The U partner with you?
A: We are always looking for ways to help artists - including internships and hosting "Artists in Residence", visual artists, musicians, film, dance, etc. Perhaps there are people in the church, or in the region, who would be willing to host a French artist... Perhaps there are some young artists, or established artists, who would like to raise the funds they need to spend 2-3 months in Paris, to be a part of the arts community there.
Additional comments: Because of my change in status I require less funding. The church (LaCroix UMC) will cover my housing and salary and is allowing me to continue in my role as European Region Consultant with The Mission Society. However, I still need to raise funds for travel an expenses for my continued work in Europe.
