Hebrews Key Concepts

Author: unknown. Written around AD 67-70. From the letter we learn theauthor knew Timothy, was a skilled Hellenistic [Greek-speaker] writing in a very polished Greek style, and was well-aquainted with the Old Testament.  This letter/sermon calls a group of Jewish Christians to stand firm in their faith and not to return to their old way of life.
James Key Concepts
Author: James, the half-brother of Jesus. Written probably from Jerusalem as early as AD 45-50, but possibly in the 60’s.  Written to encourage Jewish Christans to a vibrant faith that proves itself through concrete action. The book deals with practrical matters of how a Christian ought to live.
1 Peter Key Concepts
Author: The apostle Peter, probably written from Rome in the early 60’s.  Peter writes to remind Christans that in this life they are strangers and aliens in a foreign land. Their
true identity is as God’s children and their true home is
in his presence. This certainty can enable believers to face any adversity with faith, hope, and perseverance.

2 Peter Key Concepts
Author: The apostle Peter, probably written from Rome in the mid to late 60’s.  Now near the end of his life, Peter sees dangerous new teachings beginning to infiltrate the church, and so writes to combat them. He points out that the best opposition to false teaching is a solid understanding of the truth.  Believers can identify and avoid spiritual conterfeits by being grounded in the fathful and true Word of God.
1 John Key Concepts
Author: The apostle John, written between AD 85-95, probably from Ephesus. In this letter John’s spiritual children are under spiritual attack from false teachers. Life a good father, John responds with comfort and assurance. For those who are trying to deceive them, he has stern and angry words.
2-3 John Key Concepts
Author: “The Elder.” Assumed to be the apostle John. Both letters were probably written from Ephesus about AD 85-90.  Addresses the issue of traveling teachers and encourages the readers to be discerning, supporting those teachers who preach the truth and avoiding those who promote heresy or preach from ulterior motives.
Jude Key Concepts
Author: Jude, brother of James and half-brother of Jesus. Jude warns against false teachers in the church.
Revelation Key Concepts
Author: “John.” Assumed to be the apostle John.  Revelation provides a vision of God’s ultimate purpose for humanity. The central message is God’s sovereignty over human history. Cataclysmic disaster is predicted for the world, yet through it all God is in control. Through Jesus Christ, the glorious Lamb who was slain, he will conquer Satan and
evil, deliver his people, and create a new heaven and a new earth where his people will dwell with him for all eternity.
