The foundation is a chartered 501(c)3 corporation whose purpose is to encourage, establish and manage endowments, trusts, bequests, and gifts to members of the church in creating a legacy and making disciples for Christ.
The foundation does this through a variety of funds which are created by donors to further the church's ministries. The donor, in consultation with their advisors, decides how he or she wishes to designate a legacy for the future and provide a permanent resource to witness for Christ.
Consider how you can create a gift which will live on into the future and be a blessing to your children, your children's children, and other children of God.
How does the Foundation operate?
The Foundation has a Board of Directors which is composed of 12 University UMC members. These Directors have the responsibility to carry out your wishes according to the Articles of Incorporation of the Foundation.
Can my gift just be spent?
Unless otherwise specified by the donor, only fund earnings can be spent.
Is money the only thing I can give?
Gifts can take many different forms and all can have a positive tax implications. Upon acceptance by the Board, you can donate stocks, bonds, or other securities. Property can be donated, along with other valuable items. Your will can designate all or a portion of your estate. The Foundation can be named a beneficiary of your insurance policy. It may be possible to set up a trust or annuity to offer you tax benefits and income now - and benefit the church in the future.
Would I have to rewrite my will?
Even if you already have a will, you may be able to easily amend it through a simple codicil without the need to rewrite your will.
